Home' Australian Govlink : Issue 1 2016 Contents We know our population continues to grow and
we know this means that our cities are going to
grow exponentially too.
Given many of us live in urban coastal towns, we
know well first hand that some of our cities and
their infrastructure are struggling. I no longer think
we have a peak hour but perhaps more like a two
hour time period that is NOT a peak hour.
Trying to move around on public transport is not
easy either and when the barista at Sydney airport
knows how I have my coffee for yet again a flight
to Melbourne (carbon offset of course), I once
more wonder where our fast train is.
As individuals and organisations leading change
and working with systems, you know that building
good infrastructure is not easy.
Big population, Big infrastructure -
As Australia’s leading independent and most
trusted standards organisation, we know that
standards can help you navigate the way.
You will be well aware that Good Environmental
Choice Australia (GECA) is an ecolabel
organisation that rewards best practice
environmental products and services.
What you may not know is that our standards also
have social, ethical and fit for purpose criteria.
So whether you are creating liveability for your
community in Local, State or Federal government,
procurement and or supply chain management
- standards can help navigate your risks and
maximise your opportunities.
Choosing certified products or services can help
you do the right thing for the environment and
your own community.
Most people don’t realise that some standards
such as GECA standards are also supporting our
global community through ensuring social and
human rights issues across the whole supply
In recognising the need for big infrastructure
let’s embrace the big opportunity. In building
infrastructure that is resilient adaptive and
responsive to a 100 year legacy for our local and
Let’s make sure that products and services deliver
on environmental, social and ethical criteria AND
fit for purpose measures.
What are fit for purpose measures? This means
making sure what a product or service says it
will do, is what it will do and do it well, for a long
time-to look after this generation and many more
Let’s make sure we build it once, build it well and
build for our future, to last for our community, the
global community and create a leading legacy for
generations to come.
Healthy and happy homes, hospitals and schools,
make healthy and prosperous communities.
Let’s plan this infrastructure now - so here is the
call to action - engage with us and our partners,
such as GBCA and ISCA who also share our vision
for implementing an urban future that works.
Together we can create a leading legacy that will
last now and generations to come.
