There is a growing demand for flexibility in office
accommodation as tenants embrace open plan
and activity based working. Resulting from this,
is an increasing need for quiet areas where
workers can retreat and focus on individual
projects or engage in collaborative meetings.
Combining the fixed nature of private rooms with
organic open plan in a truly flexible environment
is where the modular partition system comes
into its own, allowing the user to reconfigure the
space and its use over time, with limited impact
on the office and the environment.
With this in mind, Formula has re-imagined
the traditional modular partition system,
significantly raising the bar in terms of capability,
reconfigurability and all round functionality.
For more than 50 years, Formula has been
working alongside architects, building
designers, project managers, facility managers
and property consultants delivering high
quality fitouts throughout Australia. From this
experience, Formula is well equipped to lead
the Australian market in delivering modular
partitions systems that perfectly respond to the
Through a focus on versatility, simplicity and
waste reduction, Formula has elevated the
traditional demountable partition to be a highly
resolved, contemporary office solution with
high acoustic performance, unsurpassed cable
management and technology support capability
that compliments design trends and perfectly
suits arrangements employing Activity Based
Formula’s reconfigurable partition system Shift,
features easy to install and remove modular
frames and panels that allow the end user to
change the way the system is used; a simple
reconfiguration can update an executive office
to a fully interactive and collaborative space, or
standalone meeting rooms – literally overnight.
Shift is fully customisable and available in a
wide range of panel and frame options including
single and double glazed or solid panels with
whiteboards, pin boards, audio-visual displays,
power/data outlets and slat wall panels which
accept a range of workstation accessories.
The system is freestanding and incorporates
a unique fixing system that will not damage
ceiling tiles, structural walls, or floors and can
be installed to attach to an existing grid ceiling
or supplied with its own integrated ceiling.
Due to the fact it is such a resolved and
innovative system, ‘Shift’ was awarded the
“2013 Australian International Design award
for Architecture and Interiors”.
Beyond Shift’s reconfigurablity and due to
Formula’s engagement with AV engineers from
the outset of the products design, IT, comms and
power supply are all elegantly integrated into
the frame modules,, ensuring that technology
can be upgraded as needed with a minimal
impact on the operating office environment.
With integrated audio visual solutions, Shift allows
the latest technology to be brought into meeting
and training rooms with the touch of a button.
Similarly, Shifts acoustic credentials are impressive.
Tested and evaluated by the CSIRO and an
independent acoustic engineer, Shift has achieved
a field-tested rating of Dw39 (laboratory tested
equivalent of up to Rw44) and also meets the
AS2107 recommended reverberation times for
private offices and conference rooms.
Clients can be assured that Shift can be
specified to deliver acoustic integrity where
either high levels of privacy are a requirement
or for a general office environments.
Through innovative componentry and
construction techniques, Shift is designed for
disassembly and endless reconfigurations – this
alone makes it environmentally superior to
other partition and wall options available.
Moreover, Formula is committed to the whole-
of-life environmental impact of Shift, offering
a Stewardship Policy and Take Back Scheme
to manage parts made redundant through
reconfiguration or when upgraded components
are introduced and clients wish to update.
Shift is certified by Good Environmental Choice
Australia (GECA), and has been assessed using
the GBCA Green Star Australia Office Interiors
Walls and Partitions Calculator and received
the maximum 3 points.
Additionally, Shift is manufactured in Australia,
limiting the environmental impacts associated
with transportation and is fully recyclable at
the end of its useful life.
